From the Saga of "problems using the onboard SCSI on the Tyan Thunderbolt
S1837, S1837UANG-L."

From LSI Logic I get:

"Open BSD is an OS that is not directly supported by LSI Logic. Any
drivers for our SCSI cards have been written by others or modified to work
in Open BSD from drivers that we do provide. Red hat Linux, on the other
hand, is an operating system that we do support. The driver for the 53C896
SCSI controller is built into the kernel of Red Hat 7.0. We also provide
kernel patch driver files on the LSI Logic FTP site for several kernel
versions of Linux. Although they are based on the Red Hat distribution they
do work with other distributions as long as you match the patch to the
kernel version. The link to the drivers in the FTP site is
ftp://ftp.lsil.com/HostAdapterDrivers/linux/. I am not familiar enough with
Open BSD to know whether these can be applied to or modified to work on it,
but you are welcome to download the files and try. The only other
suggestions that I can give is for you to check with the Open BSD web site
or a users group to see if there are any drivers already produced for this
SCSI controller."

But but but ... RedHat. :/

<sigh>

At least this is documented for the archives. I will experiment a bit and
see if I can do anything -- I am not a code hack tho. I will post results
to this list so at least folks will know an incompatibility to avoid.

Regards,

-Joe G.
