We're using clustering with NetWare 5.1 and a massive data store of about
500 GB. We copied all our CDs onto one of the clustered volumes on this
data store and then mapped the volume for user access. Users get
directories filled with CD information and we get centralized access
control. Plus we don't have to worry about mounting and dismounting CD-ROM
drives.
Of course, that's an expensive solution but if you can afford it it's easy
to manage.

Phil

I tired of being at the mercy of vendors whims and the "install SP,
break CD" dilemma.

Ripped out the spiffy controller in the CD-tower, bought a $10.00 US
adapter and terminator to bring the SCSI chain to an external adapter,
scrounged up a 6ft SCSI external cable and plugged the mess into a NW5
with an Adaptec 2940.

Turned the server back on, typed "CDrom" at the server and watched the
loaded CDroms mount. "upgraded" them into NDS. Went into NWadmin,
created an alias for each drive, ("CD-something"), made a IRF for each
"native volume" to block them from view.

These all visible from "Network neigborhood" as "CD-somehting or
other". Edit rights, filters, etc, to suit.

All in all, a lot simpler and less costly ($$$ and aggravation) that
prior solutions. Now, if I could only if I could only have a single
alias to point to multiple volumes, or some other way to group all CD's
under a single object, I'd smile even more.

All,

I know this has been discussed before, but as so much time has passed,
I'm
pretty sure new products have emerged that weren't touched upon then.

Issue :

Seeking a CD-Server to replace my Procomm CD-RAX server which will
allow for
support of :

Netware (both IPX and IP) and can be seen as regular volumes
NT (4 and 2K)
Unix

It must allow at least 800 users connections, allow for expansion of up
to
at least 60 CD units or use disk based caching of CD's.

It should optionally allow for support of DVD and CDR burners.

Should be easy to administer (single point of admin).

Anyone have anything like this or know of any products like it ?

My main issue with my current server is it only allows a max of 200
users
connected, allows only 128MB RAM (so has to be rebooted every few
days),
uses X400 technology, so does not support IP under Netware at all, and
needs
a server in the same container as it or the servers lose touch with it
constantly.

Ideas and suggestions gratefully accepted. No commisions will be paid
:)

Thanks,
