I agree,
but the mail I was responding to didn't specify a concurrent number of users, so I \
was trying to make him aware of the limits... 500 at a time is as far as I would go.

Please check the tid again, a number of people have quoted this in the past. The \
number of PO members is not the limit, its the number of concurrent live users, at \
stated in the tid. We have just sized our new GroupWise system, and will be starting \
with lots of users next month, for a maximum of 25000 users (we will phase it in over \
a maximum 3 of years, new students getting GroupWise by default each year). These \
users will be allocated at about 4500 per PO, based on the network location of their \
departments/schools. But as the number of seats in these each of these locations, \
don't exceed 500, the maximum number concurrent sessions would be, if they all use \
mail together, 500 per PO.

I agree with Dennis

Maybe youre PO's are pushing the limits a bit, I was involved with a university po \
migration and the numbers were big! there is a  good tid on Novels site about GW \
sizing (cant rememer the tid no...) , but my recomendation was shot down when I \
posted to the list ( and the university almost c$%p@d themselves when I explained \
they needed some new servers)!

I also think the limit is normal for your sent items folder.

As for the size of the mails that you students are sending, are you using GWIA? You \
could limit the size of all outgoing & incoming mail ( assuming this is internet \
mail...) ???

Unfortunatly there is no way to limit the size of a GWmailbox, so youre on the right \
track running a statistics check to see who  has the big files...

It has helped me out of some sticky situations, the people on it are generally very \
knowagable and extremely helpfull. When your contracting, you need some help!

I think that's normal.

This always gets into a religious argument around here, so I won't go into what's \
actually being done. But my thoughts on it:

1) auto archive is nice, but generally speaking you're archiving crap people have \
forgotten about. You're better off doing an autodelete after some reasonable time - \
60-90 days. Make sure they have archive space available wherever they want it, so \
they can save valid stuff on their own. (If you use something other than home dir and \
lock that down, you can still use dir quotas to limit that part, if desired.)

2) To do auto cleanups, remember you have 2 options; a) client options to delete \
after xx days or b) scheduled maint job where you can pick based on dates, disk \
usage, etc.
