The documentation included with the SDK will be most helpful for you right
now, especially SSPARCH.DOC and SSPOVR.DOC.

In the meantime, the three main parts of the MS's PC/SC implementation that
concern app developers are:

1) APIs declared in winscard.h
These are intended for smartcard-savvy applications and SSPs -- these
provide a way of interacting with the the smart card resource manager
(registering readers, cards, querying for current status, etc.)

2) Base components COM objects -- scarddat, scardsvr, and scardmgr
These objects are to be used by SSPs. They allow COM-based access to the
APIs mentioned above, as well as low-level access to cards. They're not
OLE-automation compliant, and as such they are not easily accessible from VB
or Java.

3) The samples.
The COM samples you're looking at are intended for smart card vendors who
are writing SSPs specifically for their cards. The samples are just
guidelines -- hence, they only "sorta work" -- and they're NOT intended to
replace any vendor's SSP.

So, no, they're not 'complete' for any particular card and yes, you'll have
to add the finishing touches. Take an extra look at SCardCom.
