Hi,
[snip from rfc 2328 ..]
"When the router's interface to the network is in looped back state it will
be unavailable for regular data traffic. However, it may still be desirable
to gain information on the quality of this interface, either through sending
ICMP pings to the interface or through something like a bit error test.
Hence, IP packets may still be addressed in the looped back state. To
facitilitate this, such interfaces are advertised in router LSAs as single
host routes, whose destination is the IP interface address."

In LSA metric will give info about the quality of the interface and if an
interface cannot be used for data traffic by a neighbor, what is the utility
of sending it in LSA to neighbor. What is the utility of knowing its
quality. Can anybody please send me some scenario where this is going to be
useful for routing purpose.

Regards,
Swati
