hi paul,

thank you for drawing my attention to the NETLOGON query mailslot - it
just didn't occur to me to consider using this.

ok.  so do microsoft clients, if the PDC goes down, re-send a
NET\NETLOGON packet to re-resolve the PDC name?  i hope the answer is
'yes' :-)
