The problem with strange queue name described in comment 25 may be related to
bug 3526.
It seems printerdrake (or cups?) just cannot handle non-iso8859-1 characters
correctly.

USB DJ3820, cups + hplip. As soon as they are loaded printer is switched on 
and remains on. If I switch it off it is turned back on in several seconds. 
 
Most of the time I do not need it; I print just once in a while. I'd like 
printer remain off to save energy. 
 
This does not happen on the same system in WinXP.
