I don't have multiple audio cards to be able to test with, but I did manually
make a dev node of /dev/dsp1 with ownership stew.audio and it shows up in
audacity's preferences as a possible choice. Are you sure this isn't a udev or
permissions issue?

When I use a secondary audio card (usb-audio) it is detected and devices
audio1, mixer1, sequencer1 are created.
With Mdk10.1, it was possible to select dsp or dsp1 as input or output.
With Mdk10.2beta3 the selector is locked on dsp.
