I usually search in one of the following files:

    ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/8.0/INDEX.gz

contains a list of all files in the 8.0 FTP version. 

    ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/8.0/ls-lR.gz

contains the output of 'ls -lR' executed in the he directory
ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/8.0/ and 

    ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/8.0/ARCHIVES.gz

also contains a list of all files contained in all rpms in SuSE Linux
8.0.

There is currently no index of the files in my directories,
but as there are not so many files there, it is probably not worth it.
