Actually, all is not well. At least, when I load it into 1.1.6cvs, I get
things like:

    Line ~27: Math parse error: Misplaced environment
    Line ~27: Math parse error: Unmatched environment
    Line ~27: Math parse error: Unmatching braces
    Math Panic, expect problems!

The problem here is that you're not only embedding text in math, but you're
embedding math in the text you're embedding in the math.  (Alejandro, is
this possible at all?) The easy solution for problems like this is to say
something more like

    \( y=3 \mathrm{if}\ r=1 \)

(mathrm is directly supported by LyX, by the way)

Alejandro, does the top secret new mathed support embedding math in text in
math in ...?
