Start YaST. From YaST Control Center select Software -> Online Update. 
Select a working nearby mirror in the Update Configuration box and click 
Next. If you have not selected fully automated update, pick the updates 
you want to install and click Accept. When the updates finish loading, 
click Finish. For kernel and some other updates, you should run 
SuSEconfig manually after the updates.

A full, current update can take a few hours, most particularly on slow 
machines.

The above assumes you have net access. If not, update CD's can be used, 
if they're available. Need to check with suse for that.

All this should be in the manual and online help, as well as suse 
support on their site.

The suse kernel has gone through at least 5 updates. The latest suse 
kernel is 2.4.21-231.
