Hello,

my name is Mario Holbe, I'm not really proof with Linux SMP
support, but when I boot up my new SMP machine, it says:

ENABLING IO-APIC IRQs
...changing IO-APIC physical APIC ID to 2 ... ok.
Synchronizing Arb IDs.
..TIMER: vector=49 pin1=2 pin2=0
testing the IO APIC.......................

 WARNING: unexpected IO-APIC, please mail
          to linux-smp@vger.kernel.org

Setting commenced=1, go go go

... so I do :)

I run Linux 2.4.5 from Debian kernel-source package on
an ASUS CUV4X-D Board with 2 PIII-1000.

Please tell me, how I can help to trace this down or
what information do u need to do it.

And I have another question:

The BIOS has an option 'MPS 1.4 Support' [Enable|Disable] for
Intel's MultiProcessor Specification 1.4 support.

If I turn this to [Enable], the 2.4.5 kernel most times freezes
somewhere in the boot stage, most times after the
..TIMER: vector=49 pin1=2 pin2=0
line but some times even later (probing hard disks for example).
Sometimes it just normally boots through.
If I disable the MPS 1.4 Support, it boots normally.

2.2.19 boots normally regardless of the MPS 1.4 Support enabled
or not.

Are there any risks for instabilities on 2.4.5 kernel even
if MPS 1.4 Support is disabled based on the above description,
which aren't in the 2.2.19 kernel?

Thanks for your work.

regards,
   Mario
