Hi,
We have a dual pentium III 1GHz machine in which we are trying to get
the 2.4.xsmp kernel to run on. If we boot with the noapic flag, the machine
boots fine and /proc/cpuinfo shows both processors. However, /proc/interrupts
does not show any sharing of the interrupts, i.e. they all reside on CPU0. I
presume this is what happens when you boot with noapic.
However, when we do boot with the defaults, we get the following:
ENABLING IOAPIC IRQS
...Changing IO-APIC Phyiscal APIC ID to 2 ... ok
...Timer: vector=49 pin1=2 pin2=0
testing the IO APIC..........................
WARNING: unexpected IO-APIC, please mail to linux-smp@vger.kernel.org

....CPU Clock speed is 1004.7310 MHz.
....host bus clock speed is 133.9640 MHz.

CPU0<T0:1339632, T1:893072,D:14,S:446546,C:1339640>
and then it hangs with a blinking cursor on the next line.
The motherboard for this system is an ASUS-CUV4X-DLS with the
VIA 694XDP Chipset.
We upgraded from a redhat packaged 2.4.2-2 kernel to 2.4.3-12
with no success as well as the board bios to the 4/3/2001 version.
Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Kelli
