Dear,

Having installed a RedHat 7.1 distro on a ASUS CUV4X-DLS based system
(no install problem), the smp boot fails, the last lines displayed are
the following :

----- cut-here ---------------
testing the IO APIC .........................................

WARNING : unexpected IO-APIC, please mail
          to linux-smp@vger.kernel.org

.............................. done.
Calibrating APIC timer .......
CPU clock speed is 1004.6578 MHz
Host bus speed is 133.9542 MHz

The MB is equipped with two PIII 1 GHz and 256 MB of ECC
registered/unbuffered PC133 SDRAM. The board, the cpus, the memory and
just about everything else on these machines (I have six of them) have
run Windows 2000 Prof. since they were built beginning of march 2001.

As far as I know it is a VIA chipset of some kind.
When booting "linux-uniprocessor", the system seems to run perfectly.
I'm using it to write you this message.

As far as I know the kernel is a 2.4.2. I may test with a 2.4.5, but
would just need a pointer to some documentation on how to switch my
kernel correctly.

I'm a C/C++ developer, has written device-drivers for Windows 2000, but
with very few linux experience.
