I've been thinking about this a lot-
it seems the only real solution that is both effective and user
friendly is to allow for password protection of the bootloader.

With BootX that's not really possible, not that couldn't be easily
disabled from within Mac OS itself- but maybe with yaBoot. I
admittedly don't know much about yaBoot- I do have an iMac, but i
boot it with bootX.

I can clearly understand why people, especially new to linux coming
from either Wiindows or Mac OS, would really want to be able to boot
single- and booting off a CD and mounting the drive if you forgot you
password is daunting for a newbie.

So I'll concede on this point, and someday hopefully the OPTION of
password protecting the boot loader will be present- given the fact
that the bootloader can pass stuff to the kernel before the login
process, that's really where it needs to be.
