From: Joerg Scheurich aka MUFTI <rusmufti@helpdesk.rus.uni-stuttgart.de>

Hi !

white_dune 0.26pl2 (stable) has been released:

http://www.csv.ica.uni-stuttgart.de/vrml/dune

white_dune is a open source graphical VRML editor in development.

- It can read VRML97 files, display and let the user change the
  scenegraph/fields.
- It has also simple VRML200x NURBS modelling features and can be used as
  a animation tool.
- It is not complete yet, especially in the 3D preview window 8-(

White_dune runs on various operation systems.
For Linux, there are installation packages for the following distributions:

- Debian Linux
- Gentoo Linux
- Redhat 9 Linux (based on NVidia graphics drivers)
- other source-rpm compatible Linux systems

The creation of a slackware package of version 0.26pl2 is currently
in the works.

VRML97 (Virtual Reality Modelling Language) is the ISO standard for
displaying 3D data over the web via browserplugins ("HTML for 3D").
For Linux, various VRML browers exist, including FreeWRL, lookat/OpenVRML
and Xj3D.

VRML has support for animation, realtime interaction and multimedia like
image, movie and sound ("OpenGL for dummies").

"white_dune" continue the work of Stephen F. White on the program "dune".
Dune (and therefore white_dune) is free Software under the
GNU General Public License (GPL).

The mayor advance in Version 0.26 are the advanced NURBS 3D modelling
features, that came with Thomas Rothermels work on NURBS conversion and
NurbsCurve revolve.

Highlights of things new in version 0.26:

- Conversion from Box/Cone/Cylinder/Sphere to NurbsSurface

- Conversion from NurbsSurface to IndexedFaceSet

- X symetric modelling

See http://www.csv.ica.uni-stuttgart.de/vrml/dune/docs/usage_docs/dune_en.html#$
for documentation about NURBS modelling features.

- "pure VRML97" export and preview for VRML97 browsers without NURBS support

- "animate" convenience menupoint/icon

- additional "dune4kids" program with a simplified menu for 3D modelling.

- 3D rendering of Viewpoint.fieldOfView and LOD

- 3D cursor, that makes clicking to handles very much easier,
  if you work with shutterglases

- Updates of user, install and developer documentation

- Added various bugfixes

so long
