This is what in my eyes is left to do for searching:
  * backwards mode for multi-line plaintext search
  * allow searching in block selections for all modes
  * return capture ranges (not only full match)
  * pass through options <DotMatchesNewline> and
    <escapeSequences> (-> modify internal interfaces)
