Summary: Put selected word inside parenthesis
           Product: kate
           Version: 2.3.2
          Platform: unspecified
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: wishlist
          Priority: NOR
         Component: general
        AssignedTo: kwrite-devel kde org
        ReportedBy: fnch libero it

Version: 2.3.2 (using KDE 3.3.2, Gentoo)
Compiler: gcc version 3.3.5 (Gentoo Linux 3.3.5-r1, ssp-3.3.2-3, \
                pie-8.7.7.1)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.11-gentoo-r4

Hi all,
I use Kate almost every day and I love it!
It often happens to me that I have to put parenthesis around a word or a phrase:
It would be very nice to have in Kate the following feature:

1) select a word or a phrase
2) press the key '('
>
>
V
3) obtain the substitution: SELECTION ---> (SELECTION)

Obviously this should work also with the keys '[' and '{'.
And after the substitution the text (SELECTION) should be selected, so you can press \
again the keys '(', '[' and '{'.

Latex would need the same thing for the character $:
SELECTION --> $SELECTION$

It would be nice to find a general solution to these problems.
(maybe it is possible to write a plugin with javascript)
Thanks you all.
Matteo
