After upgrading to 4.4.1(4.4 branch) from 4.3, I also started experiencing 
frequent  crashes. Leaving the machine idle, it has dropped out to KDM when 
returning. It has also happened a few times during use. Obviously I'm not sure 
if it's the same issue, still investigating.

It's not a laptop so powerdevil should not be an issue. But the times it 
happened during use, it was showing pop up notices(and I think 
powerdevil pops one up when about to suspend). As a test I turned of pop up 
notices in system tray settings. So far this seem to have an effect, but 
obviously needs some more verification. But this far the machine has been 
running ~20hrs without incident, as opposed to a crashing inside 1-3hrs as it 
did previously. Need to test more before it can be anything like a reliable 
bug-report, but it may be worth a try for you.
