Riva _is_ NVIDIA :-) Precisely NV1 chips.

You mean, Andreas Pour? He never spoke to us about this.... Signal 
communication? Hmmm.. I can't really see what he speaks about.

What might happen is that KDE-3.0.3, especially if you use it with Keramik and 
the XRender-transparent menu configurations, requires more work from the chip 
at drawing and such. Try to use the standard HighColor (or perhaps Light v.3) 
window manager and widget styles.

Anyways, once again, if it was KDE's fault, it would freeze all kinds of 3d 
cards, not only nvidia. I think it's just the video chip unable to cope with 
the workload. And the fact that disabling 3d helps is an important hint. I'm 
sorry. I know it's frustrating to hear that there's no fix for the exact 
nvidia+keramik(?)+3d combination that you want to use. I also realize that 
disabling 3d might not be an option. But, while being sorry, I still believe 
that there's nothing we can do.

It might just be that with older versions of KDE you were using styles that 
were less demanding. 

Please realize that the information you provide is very limited. Apart the 
problem of me (or other kwin developer) not having the card you have, there 
is the problem of not knowing for what to look specifically in the code.
