the log i gave before i was chating with a sim user who doesn't use UTF-8.
Here is a full session log with ICQ pro 2003b for Win:

in this session, after reading the log, it looks like Kopete detects the right
encoding but the other user recieved only "aaaaaaa" or "???????" strings.

And that's exactly why a set-encoding feature is needed.
right now i can see it exists but i wish it wasn't hidden in the ICQ contact \
information. This should be added to the chat-window toolbar, even if hidden option \
as default IMO. _______________________________________________
