We at OPIE have planned for some time now to adapt konq/e to use OPIEs built 
in document system so that eg PDFs can be opened from the browser with OPIE's 
pdf reader, ogg and mp3 can be played in the media player, etc.
However due to a lack of resources, we have not been ble to do this yet.

You don't need an embedded plugin interface as long as you can rely on 
external apps using the document model which should simplify things a lot.
It is just a simple API call in OPIE after having identified the mime type.

If you would like to take this task, I'd be glad to hear about it so we can 
incorporate the patches in our feed build.
I believe Paul or Simon will be able to point you in the right direction 
regarding konq.
