I see a similar behaviour on http://www.kde-forum.org/ 
There the Content-Type is set to  
text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1 
and the Content-Encoding is  
gzip 
 
In Gentoo's KDE 3.1.2 everything displays alright,  
but in CVS HEAD from today I get a listing of binary garbage.   
Maybe the transparent gzip decompression doesn't work?
