Ok, Icon View mode then.

Yes, and that's on purpose. When you're deleting files, it's easier if
all the other files don't move all the time.
And when you DO want that the icon are realigned, it's as simple as
pressing F5.

I doubt anything has changed. It has always been like that, the disappearing
icon leaves a blank spot.

if you delete a file with konqueror in sybmol view mode the file disappear korrectly \
but the list will not refresh (this works with 2.2.1) automatically, so empty fields \
appear.
