And add this to your CMakeLists.txt:
install( FILES kritarc DESTINATION ${CONFIG_INSTALL_DIR} )

Basically the rc file in ${CONFIG_INSTALL_DIR} get loaded before the one in 
${KDEHOME}/share/config , so default value end up there, and only if the user 
make custom changes, the file in share/config is changed. (which is basically 
the case for the "state", but not for the shapes selection)
