I must agree with Jos. And in addition to that; something called an
"interface revamp" is absolutely not suited for a SoC, and I believe
Thomas (the KWord maintainer) will agree with me here. A SoC should
preferably be a concise project with a clear and limited purpose. This
is a way too ambitious task, and is something that would need much
more discussion and thought. Quite some thought and planning has
already went into the interface of KWord2 (and the other KOffice
applications too), unpolished as it may be in its current state.

On a more personal note, even though I'm sure Microsoft put quite some
UI designers and usability folks behind the ribbon interface, and I'm
sure I could get used to something like that, it definitely eats way
to much vertical space while not really making use of all the
horizontal space that is and will be available in a world moving
towards wide screens. I also share Carlo's concern; there's probably
patents all over this thing and though it was some time since I last
used the ribbon interface, your mock-up basically looks like a clone.

I don't mean to sound negative, but it seems to me you're not entirely
grasping the scope of what you're suggesting. And you say yourself
that you haven't read the SoC guidelines carefully. May I ask why?
Reading the guidelines should be the first thing you do, and in
addition to that it's always a good idea to discuss your idea with the
project maintainers in advance, especially if your proposal is a big
one like this.

Regards,
Elvis
