I agree that passing on a document for review is a very common case, and 
preserving data makes very much sense here. But fact is that there are other 
cases in which the expected behavior is quite the opposite. In my opinion, the 
user is the only one who knows what he'll expect KOffice to do.

But assuming that we do implement it the way you and Thomas proposed it, how 
is the user opening a not fully supported template document supposed to be 
aware of these unknown items? How can he get rid of unsupported properties 
(like text rotation)? You see, in this case he couldn't use KOffice at all. 
Unless he always double-checks in OpenOffice or even uses it exclusively. And 
this doesn't sound like a very good solution to me :)
