not only that, but Fedora is currently a month after *buntu. add in any other
options and it just gets rediculous. and heaven forbig anyone slips by a
month or two (has happened in the past for all mentioned products).
the idea of some sort of globally coordinated release is a pipedream that is
being sold as a way to convince people to line up nicely with one company's
product.
i was honestly very unimpressed when Kubuntu was mentioned by name in the dot
story. i tried to get it removed but didn't make it in time. why? by sidling
too obviously and too overtly with any one group we completely compromise our
neutrality and start to endager our working relationships with other groups.
this is not a theory, but something that has already come up.
for everyone thinking *buntu has Done It(tm), i might just remind you of the
days when Red Hat was in the position in the community's mind. or how Gentoo
flared and then flamed out. or the chaos that ensued when SUSE was bought by
Novell and all the gnashing of teeth that went on.
playing goody-goody with one group too strongly is a recipe for bad things to
happen.
we definitely need to take into consideration our downstreams, but that word
is plural.
