FYI: I've just read a bit more about

It's amazingly similar to my proof of concept command line tool presented before
http://www.kexi.pl/media/raporty/
Not that mine stuff was very original but I needed it for testing/extending 
KexiDB capabilities last year.

The best thing in the idea is that the document template can be prepared in 
any ODF-supporting software that offers minimum set of needed features, i.e. 
KWord and OOo Writer are good candidates.
