I think the consensus is to use a different user for kde4 application development.
I've got a kde4 user and I do 

sux - kde4

To become that user but still be able to run X11 applciations. That user has got
qt-copy and kdelibs4 installed into its home directory, and the paths etc. set 
accordingly. Not ideal, but I don't doubt the day when it becomes possible to run
Qt4/KDE4 and Qt3/KDE3 applications together isn't that far off.

I think that at one point in time all KOffice applications want to be able to
make use of flake objects. However, they will certainly be overkill for KSpread
cells, so I guess for text in cells you'll be using kotext2 on its own.
