While I agree on the problems; the separation into different applications 
limits the usage of the two. It becomes an awful lot harder to do some 
things.  You really want to mix them and then we will end up with a tiny set 
of vector stuff in the editor and visa versa. Just like photoshop has vector; 
but nobody uses it unless they have to.
So I think a solution should be found to the problems, instead of concluding 
they should not be mixed..

Musing on my last email on layers perhaps a kparts idea not for a square on 
screen but for layers?
So your tools and edit menu change when you select another layer...

Tell me if I'm smoking pot here :)
