Well yes, but it's certainly better than KSpread locking up, IMHO. Of course,
an alternative would be to disable the Ok button until a legal series is
entered. Seeing as though a) the error message doesn't really add to the
user's understanding of problem b) KOffice is still in a string freeze; maybe
it would good idea to change your patch in this way (and remove the existing
messages as well)?

The second option sounds better to me - maybe a progress bar with cancel
button.

Sounds interesting but I can't quite picture this feature in the same dialog.
It's not really a conventional series...

Well, you've already written code that fixes a serious bug you discovered.
That's enough experience already! You can pick up a huge amount by working
on an application and referring to qt-copy/doc/html/*.html and kdelibs'
headers.

Just stay away from developing filters as it's incredibly difficult to write a
comprehensive one and at least from my experience, very little Qt/KDE is
learnt from it. Having said this, filters are the weakest part of KOffice
and the situation will probably get worse once the need to port them to OOo
formats emerges (in a couple of months, I would imagine).

Cheers,
Clarence
