Hi,

I know the patch doesn't look very clean but the feature freeze is 
fast-approaching and I theoretically can't commit it after the deadline.  
Should I commit now so that I can do any fixing that's required during the 
freeze (including possibly removing it if someone objects?).  As the patch 
stands, it doesn't actually do anything unless the filters make use of it.
