No, I don't have very much experiences with Lotus 123 file format. Anyway, 
it's very great that you already came into R4 file format (I do believe it's 
not an easy task!).

My opinion is: if we can, then support all possible version of 123. So create 
a generic 123 filter and handle version difference inside the code. For 
version < 4, sure we can take benefits from Gnumeric's. For the rest, we can 
rely on your investigations. Of course, the one who codes decides...
