I encountered the same problem when trying to user CorelDraw generated 
EPS files. That was in May, but I am afraid there is still some developement
ahead the road as to ESP inclusion.

Since you have fixed resolution during a screen presentation anyway,
the best thing probably is to convert everything to GIF in *exactly*
that resolution, eg. 1024x768. If your picture is smaller, just insert
it in a white background GIF of that size. You should be able to type
text on top of this without problems, and you're absoltuely shure
about the positioning of your images then. 
Beware: my version of kpresenter did not like allGIF varieties; 
just try whether this has changed.
