Koffice uses the XML format for its documents and uses the XML-language
abbility to seperate content from markup. Because of this a filter which
filters from a specific document format to the KOffice format is fairly easy
to build.

There have been changes between versions in the alpha stage of koffice, after
the release it is very unlikely that a change will affect the compatibility of
versions. This is in a big part thanx to the XML document format which allows
for changes without losing backward compatibility.
