IMHO, until we ship koffice 1.0, we should not worry too much. For example,
I recently had to change the way '&' characters are stored in order to make
it possible for filters to import such characters. There is a pending
problem for '"' - I have not yet worked out the problem there, but it might
require a similar fix.
After 1.0 ships, I think the version number recently introduced will have to
be bumped for each *incompatible* change - and the code should support older
syntax too. We will never be able to make someone's old data unusable!
