I've been thinking a lot about KSpread over the past few weeks as I've
started working on integrating Goose (the stats engine that will also be
used by Gnumeric) into KSpread ( no CVS-able code yet, still mastering KOM).
When I look at other Linux spreadsheet offerings (e.g. StarCalc), I don't
see anything in them that we couldn't surpass. However, I don't want to
commit to taking over the maintenance until I see how my schedule works out
this school year.
If there's anybody who is in a similar situation and would like to
co-maintain KSpread, please let me know. I'd be glad to take over
development of stats/math functions, GUI changes, and KSpread news/website
duty, if somebody else could do scripting interface and file formats, or
something like that.
Some people (ahem, Torben, Reggie, etc.), know KOffice so thoroughly that
they can handle all these different angles. Those of us who are newer will
be a LOT slower in developing until we really get familiar with the code.
For that reason, I think it will be very smart to look towards
co-maintenance of some of these packages. How do the rest of you feel?
