Your theory, then, is that some mice may have gotten a SVN account and
screwed up the branch tree. Reverting to the last release is a pain in
SVN because it never works perfectly, but I will try.

No difference. What I was really puzzled by is what the hell:

Yes, I have a copy of "trunk" as well, but it didn't compile the day I
tried 1.4 BRANCH.

I suppose that I am supposed to feel sorry for you since in the USA I
have unlimited DSL for $29.95 per month.

That is why I posted to the list rather than file a bug report. But, as
I said, the other koffice apps seem to work OK.
So, I will rebuild using 1.4.2 and see if I still have the same problem.
