Summary: Multiple Network Graphics (MNG) support
Product: koffice
Version: unspecified
Platform: Compiled Sources
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: wishlist
Priority: NOR
Component: general
AssignedTo: koffice kde org
ReportedBy: horkana maths tcd ie
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.4.1)
Installed from: Compiled From Sources
It would be great if Koffice and in particular Krita (and karbon) support the \
Mulitple Network Graphics format (MNG) http://libmng.sourceforge.net
http://www.libpng.org/pub/mng/
Don't think of MNG as a complex animated file format, think of it as PNG with extras. \
Currently there is no open standard for Layered Raster graphics. Adobe PSD is the \
defacto standard. MNG would provide a better way to share images with other \
software without needing to use PSD and without being forced to flatten images to \
single layered PNG files or JPG.
It would be generally useful if KDE could view these files (even as purely static \
images) and it could be useful to other koffice applications like KChart, Karbon, and \
Kivio (maybe even Kpresenter) so that vector graphics do not have to be completely \
falattened when being rasterised.

The gimp can currently export MNG but does not yet support import but in the future \
it will hopefully support importing at least as much as it export.
(Tivia note: Macromedia Fireworks uses a custom multipage version of PNG for their \
native file format.) ____________________________________
