Hello Jeffrey,

I tried to recreate the bug on my system (suse 8.2
with kde and qt upgraded to 3.1.4 and 3.2).

In the kspread from my distro (probably 1.2-I'm not in
front of that PC for the moment) the behaviour is as
you describe. So clearly a bug. I think it is in de
bugs database as n°62730

http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=62730

But in a newer version that I installed 2 weeks ago
(1.2.95) the bug is clearly resolved. You can change
the format of a number to text and back. And when you
enter numbers that are supposed to be interpreted as
text, you can use the old lotus 1-2-3 trick of
preceding the number by a "'".

So my advice would be to upgrade your KDE/Koffice
setup.

Regards

Marc
