Does it happens also when you set the grid to 0?

That is surely a bug. Try to find in KDE Bugs ( http://bugs.kde.org ) if there 
is not already such a bug for KWord. If not, please add a bug report.

If I remember well, this is a common wish.

(Personally I would like to find a way to avoid duplicated code with 
KPresenter, but I have not found a way to do it yet.)

The CVS version has a much better MS Word import (with the help of an 
external library.)

You can use "Insert/Special character" (in German "Einfügen/Sonderzeichen".) 
With this dialog, you can select any font and any Unicode character.
