Doesn't the XML format of the koffice documents require reading the ENTIRE 
file start to finish looking for TAGS etc. etc. ?

Kate, Xemacs, Vim, etc. do NOT have to do this and are allowed to fseek to 
a point in the file and read only a subset of it for display/editing.  Thus 
they are VERY fast.

I am not sure KWord would be able to do this (reading of a parital file). 
Please correct me if I am wrong
