No, it should behave exactly the same way, no matter whether it writes to a 
file or to a KWord document. If we find out that we don't need the document 
but a file after the filtering process (e.g. because we're doing a command 
line conversion, or the next filter in the chain requests a file) the filter 
manager just saves the KWord document. This should work in principle, but I 
didn't test extensively.

If you decide to give it a try and it doesn't work, please send me your 
patches + debug output you get.
