At the extension of the font files. The font paths are in your XF86Config
The files fonts.dir contain the definitions of the fonts.
*.pcf are bitmap fonts
*.afm are Type 1 fonts
*.ttf are True Type fonts

These should be mainly type 1 fonts.

That does not surprise me! However, that does not give us the solution. :-(
