Issuing a shell command is a little bit more sophisticated than hitting 
a delete button. And BTW even in KMail the "Delete" button works. ;-) 
Your examples are furthermore bad examples because they need the users 
interaction while a delete filter action would happen automatically 
without user interaction. A valid example would have been a cron job 
which automatically removes old temporary files.

With the upcoming "set status" filter action in combination with "move 
to trash" and automatic emptying of the trash folder on program exit 
the delete filter action isn't really needed. And if someone really 
can't live without it he should use the source instead of bugging the 
developers to add this unnecessary option.
