I never noticed that I might need kdebase although I use the current
cvs version of KMail all the time. To be honest I never compiled cvs
kdebase. But as I neither use pop3 nor imap4 this is no problem for me.
I get all my mail via fetchmail from the servers and then read it with
KMail from the local mailbox.

Exactly. Even after not updating kdelibs or kdebase for a week it only
takes a few minutes to update to the current versions (via ISDN).
