I never noticed that I might need kdebase although I use the current cvs version of KMail all the time. To be honest I never compiled cvs kdebase. But as I neither use pop3 nor imap4 this is no problem for me. Even after not updating kdelibs or kdebase for a week it only takes a few minutes to update to the current versions (via ISDN).
