If folder compaction does not work, then there is obviously something wrong.
Is this reproducable, that when you delete some messages in a folder and 
compact it, that its size does not shrink?

However I currently have no idea, why it doesn't work in your office then, 
since it works for nearly everyone else (even on NFS). Maybe installation or 
broken binary package problem.
