May I suggest the following :

"On Exit, expunge trash of messages older than : <nbdays>".

or

"On Exit, expunge from trash messages older than : <nbdays>".

If the setting is available under some section (in the general sense)
named "trash", that would allow to simply formulate it as
"on exit, expunge messages older than...".
